New Scholars Previewed

Norwich City have announced next year’s first year Academy scholars. The FONCY website taking a break in the close season but we are looking forward to the new season. While Glenn Roeder still has much to do on the first-team front, the Academy planning at Under-18 level is substantially complete. And here we take at brief look at next years’ scholars.

Five players come up from last seasons successful Academy Under-16 squad.

Tom Adeyemi (midfield) and Sam Habergham (defence) are both local lads from Norwich and Attleborough respectively.

Also from the Under-16 squad come Welsh youth internationals David Stephens (midfield) and Josh Dawkin (forward) who hail from Welwyn Garden City and St. Ives respectively. Ghanaian Manny Richardson (forward) more has lived more recently in Luton.

All five have made appearances for the Under-18 team in 2007/08 while still at school.

They are joined by Tyree Clarke, a striker who has grown up in the Midlands and come from Birmingham City and George Francomb, a defender from Hornchurch who has been playing local football in Essex.

Dario Dumic (Midfield) hails from Copenhagen and has been tracked by Norwich for several years, visiting Colney and taking part in tournaments abroad for Norwich as long ago as 2005. Most recently Dario was in competitive action for City in the Megacard Cup Under-16 tournament at the beginning of 2008.

Kenny Reeves joins on the recommendation of Gary Butcher, having played for Norwich United Under-18s and Lakeford Under-16 last season. He has been involved with the Academy earlier in his footballing career, being in the same Under-9 squad and Tom Adeyemi and Sam Habergham!

Meanwhile England Under-16 keeper Jed Steer is waiting in the wings. Born is September, Jed is too young to be taken on a scholar. Nevertheless we can expect to see lots of Jed in the Under-18 side next season.
