COLCHESTER UNITED RESERVES 1 NORWICH CITY RESERVES 2

After their below par performance against Wycombe Wanderers at The Causeway Stadium two weeks ago, it was a vastly improved display from Keith Webb's side as they overcame Colchester United at Layer Road on Tuesday.

Two first half goals, one each for Leon McKenzie and Ryan Jarvis, were followed shortly after the break with a goal from the home side. While it might seem that this was a close game, City always looked in control despite the fact that they could not find the third goal to kill the game off.

The game marked Jake Osborne's debut for the Reserves and he acquitted himself well, and along with Olly Willis looked solid at the back.

City opened their account on 15 minutes when Keith Briggs threw the ball in to McKenzie who shielded the ball from his marker before turning and firing in a left foot shot that beat Dean Gerken in the "U"s goal down to his left.

Four minutes before the break and City extended their lead when Jarvis intercepted a pass before calmly firing the ball home.

Rob King reduced the arrears 5 minutes after the interval when he headed home a corner.

McKenzie could have added to his score with a header that went just inches wide while Dean Sinclair, who had one of his best games for the Reserves, went close after McKenzie turned provider.

City Line-up: Crichton, Briggs, Willis, Sinclair, Halliday, Osborne, Blackburn [Howlett 71], McKenzie [Crow 60], Jarvis, Easton, Smith [Eagle 87].
