A stirring second half fight-back from City Reserves looked to have secured Keith Webb's side a deserved share of the points at Millwall on Wednesday, that is until just a few seconds into stoppage time when Keith Briggs gave away a needless corner from which Millwall scored the winning goal. Despite the disappointment of defeat, it was another good performance from what was a youthful City side, the second half in particular was one to savour. It was the home side that opened the scoring when on 17 minutes Kevin Braniff finished from close range after a good cross from Barry Cogan. Five minutes later and John Sutton thought he had got his name on the score sheet with a looping header, but Olly Willis was perfectly placed to head off the line. |

City were then denied not once but twice by the woodwork. Firstly Matthew Halliday saw his close range effort strike both post and crossbar, while shortly after Adam Smith saw his header from a Lee Blackburn cross hit the upright. Just one minute before the break Millwall extended their lead through Sutton, who was on hand to finish off a free kick at the far post. Into the second half and, after going close with a shot from the edge of the area, it was Crow who reduced the arrears on 63 minutes when, despite being under pressure, he finished off a Smith cross from the edge of the six-yard box. City's equalising goal came five minutes before full-time when Clint Easton lifted a clever ball over the Millwall defence for Sinclair to run onto and fend off two challenges before firing the ball home. Just when it seem that City had produced a memorable comeback, Briggs gave away a corner and, with what was virtually the final kick in the game, Joe Dolan finished from close range. |
