TWO OFF AS RESERVES GO DOWN

NORWICH CITY RESERVES 1 NORTHAMPTON TOWN RESERVES 2

City Reserves have lost their second fixture of the season to Northampton Town, this latest defeat coming on Wednesday at Colney.

To add insult to injury Keith Webb's side finished the game with just nine men, having first Greg Crane and then Keith Briggs sent off.

City gave a game to Newmarket youngster Alex Rhodes, who has been knocking the goals in for the Ridgeons League outfit, and the lad certainly did not look out of place. It remains to be seen if Norwich keep tabs on Rhodes and have another look, the next Reserve fixture being at Southend in two weeks time.

City started the game brightly and it needed a smart save from the Cobblers' keeper Glyn Thompson to deny Rhodes after he was put clear by Ryan Jarvis.

Rhodes then turned provider with a delightful cross for Iwan Roberts whose effort was just wide of the target. The visitors opened the scoring on 27 minutes when Steve Morison raced clear of the City defence to beat Paul Crichton at his near post.

City drew level just two minutes after the break when David Chick was brought down in the area, Ryan Jarvis making no mistake from the spot.

The visitors were still in the running however and Chick, who once again caught the eye, had to be alert to hook one off the line.

It didn't look good for the Canaries when Crane was given his marching orders after bringing down Derek Asamoah, Oli Burgess scoring the resulting penalty to put the Cobblers ahead again.

Dean Sinclair saw an effort go just wide, but the writing looked on the wall for the Canaries when Briggs joined Crane in the dressing room after he had fouled the troublesome Asamoah.

Despite being reduced to nine men City still had chances to draw level.

First it was Jarvis who saw his well struck shot turned away by Thompson, and from the resulting corner Jason Shackell's downward header had too much power on it as it bounced over the crossbar.
