The 93's were playing a few miles away from the 92's in the Jetsmark Stadium on the first day and there were a couple of hectic dashes for the FONCY contingent together with the Academy Management and Physio Vicky to make sure we caught all the games. The younger side were unfortunate to go down 2-1 to a good Brondby side in their first game, staging a courageous second-half fight-back which wasn't quite enough after going 2-0 down. The second game against Hammelev of Denmark was controlled by the Canaries who went on to win comfortably 2-0 to end the day on a positive note, although they were lucky to see the referee wave away Hammelev appeals for first-half penalty. |

They faced group leaders Malmo in the first game of the second day and it proved to be the expected difficult game. Nevertheless the 4-0 end result was undeserved for a team that were never outclassed. Following this heavy defeat it was important that the team responded well in the next game against Swedish club Boo FF. They didn't disappoint against a very robust side and played some good football to lead 1-0 at the interval. Boo managed to force their way through to get a equaliser in the second-half, but the 93's can count themselves unlucky not to have taken full points out of the game. Early Saturday morning gave the youngsters a final chance to improve their group position against Aalborg. |

As it turned out the match (which ended in a 1-0 defeat after a first-half penalty) was overshadowed by an accidental clash of heads just before the end of the game. Fortunately the Norwich player involved was given the OK after a hospital check-up. We wish the more unfortunate Aalborg player a speedy and complete recovery. City dominated their ninth-place play-off match against FC Kopenhagen but couldn't force a winner from several chances in a 0-0 draw. To their credit Norwich held their nerve to win the penalty shoot-out 4-3 and finish their tournament on a positive note - to the obvious pleasure of coaches Greg Crane and Paul Taylor and Academy Manager Ricky Martin. |
