The visit last weekend of an Academy Under-14 squad to a tournament in Lohne, near Bremen in Germany, belongs very firmly in the “experienced gained” category. Academy Assistant Manager Dean Rastrick and coach Phil Bugg were in charge of a very young and physically small squad compared to some of the better Bundesliga sides in the competition. Nevertheless, Norwich had more than a good chance of winning the games against Hansa Rostock and VfL Osnabrueck, but unfortunately the Canaries could not convert their control of these matches into goals. The other group games against Hannover, Koge (Denmark) and Hertha Berlin were a lot harder, whereby the best result was obtained in the final group game against Berlin. The team from the German capital, who went on to reach the final, were held to a 0-0 draw with City showing a lot of fighting spirit. This result, together with a penalty shoot-out win against hosts BW Lohne in the play-off game, meant City could finish the tournament on a positive note. A large selections of photos from the tournament will be available on this website in the next few days. |
