Youngsters Lose Out At Portman Road

IPSWICH TOWN UNDER 17's 3 NORWICH CITY UNDER 17's 1

City played an Under-17 friendly against Ipswich Town on Saturday, the game being played at Town's Portman Road ground.

Ricky Martin and Colin Watts were on hand to cast an eye over 3 trialists in the Canaries line-up, with the rest of the team made up of first year scholars and Under 15's.

City went close in the opening minutes with both chances falling to Scott Woodcock, the first being saved by the Town keeper while his second - a glancing header - was only just over the crossbar.

The home side took the lead on 28 minutes when Shane Herbert was beaten from close range by Sammy Moore following a short corner routine.

Four minutes later and City found themselves two goals adrift when Liam Craig converted from the penalty spot after Lee Howlett was guilty of committing the foul.

After the break Ipswich continued to push forward and they scored a third on 55 minutes through Danny Haynes when he sneaked between two defenders to lift the ball over Herbert. You may remember the former Charlton midfielder had a trial match for the Canaries in their 2-0 defeat at Birmingham back in March.

To their credit City stuck to their task and pulled a goal back on 75 minutes when trialist Daniel Ludlow curled in a free kick.

Although this only turned out to be a consolation goal, City did go close twice in the closing stages.

Firstly Lee Howlett struck the crossbar with a 25-yard effort, while in injury-time Chris Martin could only steer his shot at the Town keeper from close range.
City Line-Up: Herbert, Cave-Brown, Hassell, Fisk, Osborne, Spillane, Eagle, Howlett, Martin, Woodcock, Ludlow.

Subs: Muddel, Djahansouzi, Becksfield.

Top Canary: Andrew Cave-Brown.
