City's Academy Under-18 side had no answer to a rampaging Arsenal as The Gunners ran out convincing winners in front of biggest the crowd seen at Colney this season on Saturday. You could argue that a couple of decisions went against the Canaries, but in the end it had little bearing on the overall result. With David Williams accompanying the Welsh Under-21's in Germany, it was Academy Manager Ricky Martin who took control for today's match with City looking to get back to winning ways after going down by the only goal of the game at Chelsea last week. Inside the first few minutes there was a taster of what was to come as Arsenal's Swedish striker Nicklas Bendtner worked his way into a shooting position and it needed a last ditch tackle from Alvin Quaye to clear the danger. |

Bendtner was not to be denied on 17 minutes however when he ran onto a through ball to beat City keeper Shane Herbert from ten yards. Just ten minutes later however and City were back on level terms when the pace of Bally Smart took him past his marker down the left flank before crossing for Asmat El Ouargui to hit a low shot on the turn past Arsenal's Vito Mannone. Chances then went begging at both ends with first Herbert saving from Anthony Stokes, while at the other end it was Smart who was denied when his volley was saved by Mannone. With just five minutes to go before the break Arsenal restored their lead when the ball broke kindly for Stokes who nevertheless finished well with an angled drive. |

Stokes might have got his second moments later but Herbert made a good save. There was however no stopping the Gunners as Giorgos Efrem sent in a delightful free kick just sixty seconds before the break that had Herbert rooted to the spot. Stokes was causing City plenty of problems as the second half got underway, unleashing a fierce drive that Herbert could not hold, fortunately Mitchell Murphy fired the rebound over the bar. With 65 minutes on the clock the game was all but over for City as Rene Steer hit a low shot into the bottom left hand corner beyond the outstretched arm of Herbert. El Ouargui wasted a golden opportunity to drag City back into the game as he blasted over from a good position, while Mannone had to be alert to tip a cross cum shot from Adam Gusterson over the bar. |

Arsenal completed the scoring on 82 minutes when Bendtner met a near post corner to head the ball home. As the seconds ticked away City might have scored what would have only been a consolation goal when Seb Muddel caught Mannone out of position, but his lofted effort struck the crossbar.
