Two goals in the final ten minutes saw City's Academy side sink to a second consecutive away defeat as they were beaten 3-1 by Arsenal at London Colney on Saturday. Despite the reversal David Williams was pleased with his side's performance, knowing full well that the Gunners would have plenty of possession and that the young Canaries would have to deal with that. This, to their credit, they did well for 80 minutes. After coming under pressure during the opening minutes City hit back in the best possible way on ten minutes when Seb Muddel chased a ball down to the corner flag and after getting the better of the full back he sent in a low cross that found Kris Renton, the striker finishing from the edge of the six-yard box. Arsenal continued to have the upper-hand but City defended well but with only eight minutes to go before the break the home side drew level after they were awarded a penalty. |

Williams was pleased that his young side retained their discipline in the second half and while they found themselves on the back foot for long periods they still had a couple of half chances to regain the lead. However, just when it seemed City might get something out of the game, Arsenal took the lead on 80 minutes after a left wing cross was finished from close range and then just two minutes later a similar move down the right flank saw City concede a third goal, again from close range. City Line-Up: Arnold, Cooper, Matthews, Miller, McLean, O'Toole, Eames (Kelly 72), Daley, Renton (Smart 75), Lathrope, Muddel. Subs not used: Quaye, Byrne. Top Canary: Damon Lathrope. |
