David Williams saw his side slip to their first defeat of their pre-season warm up campaign when they went down by the odd goal in three to a well organised Bayer Leverkusen side. The Canaries however only had themselves to blame after missing several good chances in the second half. City found themselves a goal behind after just 15 minutes when Joe Lewis was beaten from the penalty spot, this coming after a typical forward's tackle by Seb Muddel. That was about it as far as the first half was concerned, for while City had an equal amount of possession they rarely troubled the German's goal. It was different story after the break however as Chris Martin forced the Bayer keeper into a fine save with a header from an Robert Eagle corner, while at the other end Lewis produced a good save from point-blank range. |

However on the hour mark the visitors extended their lead when City were left looking for the offside flag. Eight minutes later however and City pulled a goal back with Adam Gusterson scoring from the spot after Martin was brought down. Martin maybe should have then done better with a shot that the keeper saved after some delightful play by Andrew Fisk, while the keeper again denied City - this time a well struck free kick from Lee Howlett being turned away. With injury time looming Martin again should have done better when clean through, but once again he was denied by the keeper. City Line-Up: Lewis [Herbert 68], Gusterson, Spillane [Quaye 80], Halliday, Cave-Brown, Howlett, Fisk, Eagle, Muddel [Eames 68], Martin, El Ouargui. |
