A goal after just fifteen minutes was enough to give visitors Birmingham City all three points at Colney on Saturday as David Williams' side completed their home fixtures for the season. With Bally Smart, Patrick Bexfield and Kris Renton all traveling to Leicester City with the first team, Williams named a starting line-up consisting entirely of first year scholars and schoolboys. The Blues quickly got into their stride with Ashley Sammons testing City keeper Declan Rudd with a 20-yard effort. |

Birmingham continued to hold the upper hand and it paid dividends on the quarter of an hour mark when City failed to clear a Birmingham free kick allowing the ball to be sent back into the area where Jamie Sheldon fired in a low shot past Rudd into the far corner. City responded well with Nick Davey setting up Kurtis Byrne whose shot was only inches wide of the target. Back at the other end, and for the second time in the game Rudd was on hand to deny Sammons while City winger Jordan Jong saw a shot saved after good work by Luke Daley and Davey. Shortly before the break City had their best opportunity of the match when Daley beat two defenders before seeing his shot hit the post. |

City started the second half as they had finished the first with Birmingham keeper Artur Krysiak producing a good save to deny Ross Kellly while moments later brother Danny made the opening for Yong to send a shot just wide of the upright. Byrne then saw his shot charged down which left the Birmingham defender needing lengthy treatment. With time running out for the Canaries Rudd was forced to save at the feet of goalscorer Sheldon while deep in stoppage time, with virtually the last kick of the game, City substitute Damon Lathrope fired a shot into the side netting. |
