Two second-half goals from schoolboy Bally Smart saw City's Academy side take all three points against Bristol City at Colney on Saturday afternoon. It was certainly a good week for the South African after he netted a hat-trick for the Under-16's against Danish side Hvidovre on Wednesday. In a way the game was very similar to the one played out at Carrow Road a couple of hours later, with an even first half before the Canaries stamped their authority on the game after the break. Of course the game at Carrow Road was much more significant. The game took twenty minutes before it burst into life when Rossi Jarvis forced the visitors' defence into a hasty clearance with a low cross to the near post. |

Shortly after there was an indication of what was to happen later in the game when a far post cross from Patrick Bexfield was met on the volley by Smart, but his effort was blocked by a Bristol defender. At the other end, and with England coach Ray Clemence an interested spectator, Joe Lewis did his England prospects no harm with an outstanding one-handed save, however he did need the help of the crossbar to keep out the resulting corner. Lewis was quickly called into action after the break when he needed to be alert to save a deflected shot, while from the rebound Elliot Benyon fired the ball over. With 55 minutes on the clock City took the lead with a goal of the highest quality. With his back to the goal, Smart lifted the ball over the first defender's head before wrong footing the next defender and then bending a shot into the far corner. |

David Williams introduced Andrew Fisk who has been sidelined with an ankle injury and he quickly tested Sam Pearce in the Bristol goal with a 30-yard screamer. The final word of the game however belonged to Smart who capped his man of the match performance with a stunning strike form 25 yards that looped over the keeper and into the top corner. City Line-up: Lewis, Jarvis, Smith, Cave-Brown, Halliday, Spillane [Gusterson 80], Howell, Bexfield [Fisk 65], Martin, Smart, Eagle. Subs Not Used: P.Smith, Willis. Top Canary: Bally Smart. Gary Butcher's side shared the honours with their Bristol City counterparts. The goalscorers for Norwich were Luke Daley and trialist Matthew Pilgrim. |
