Despite the fact they had somewhere in the region of a ten-hour round trip, Bristol City made their way back down the M4 to west country with all three points in the bag as they beat Norwich by the odd goal in three at Colney on Saturday afternoon. The visitors were a goal up at the interval and extended their lead in the second-half before Norwich pulled a goal back through Seb Muddel. This was not one of the most memorable games seen at Colney this season, although the hardy band of loyal Academy supporters will doubtless remember the game, if only for the bitterly cold conditions. David Williams handed Mark O'Toole and Damon Lathrope their first starts for the Under-18's, the two schoolboys all set to join The Academy as first-year scholars at the start of next season. |

Norwich were the first with any meaningful attempt on goal when Asmat El Ouargui saw his shot deflected just wide of the target, this coming after fifteen minutes of play. Shortly after Bristol were looking towards referee Mr McCreadie when it appeared that Andrew Cave-Brown had fouled Jennison Williams, the referee waved play on however. Steve Arnold had to be alert to get down to his right to make a good save from a Billy Marshall shot, while Michael Spillane, making his first Academy start for a number of weeks, made an important tackle with the Bristol striker going for goal. With just two minutes left on the clock in the first-half the visitors opened their account when Williams picked up the ball just outside the centre circle before brushing two Norwich defenders aside to beat Arnold with an angled shot that went in off the inside of the post. |

Arnold was again called into action shortly after the interval when he had to tip a header from Ollie Barnes over the crossbar, but with 58 minutes on the clock Bristol doubled their lead. City were guilty of failing to clear a corner allowing Marshall to beat Arnold with a low shot across the face of the goal. Just ten minutes later City pulled a goal back after a great run down the middle by Bally Smart who tried his luck from the edge of the box. With Bristol keeper Sam Pearce unable to hold onto the ball there was Seb Muddel following up to slot the ball home. Try as they might in the final twenty minutes or so, Norwich were not able to put any sustained pressure on the visitors goal, the nearest they came was late in the match when Spillane saw a free kick go just over the bar. |
