Two first half goals from Rossi Jarvis and Michael Spillane saw David Williams' side extend their unbeaten run to five games as they overcame Birmingham City on Saturday. City had to endure some early pressure from the home side as Birmingham started the brighter of the two teams. Indeed it needed a smart clearance by Glen Thrale inside the first five minutes to deny the Blues a shot on target from inside the six yard box. Birmingham continued to threaten when Asa Hall went close with a header, while moments later the same player saw a looping shot just go over the crossbar. City keeper Joe Lewis had to be alert as he made a brave save at the feet of Nathanial Howell as the Blues striker raced onto a through ball. |

It was a full thirty minutes before City mounted an attack worthy of note when they forced the home side to concede a corner, but while that came to nothing just three minutes later the Canaries took the lead. Michael Spillane picked the ball up in his own half before making progress down the right wing. The City defender jinked his way past two defenders before letting fly with a low drive that the Birmingham keeper Adam Legzdins did well to block with his legs, but when the ball fell to Rossi Jarvis (who was playing in a midfield role) he smashed the ball into the net. Birmingham almost hit back with a curling shot from Sone Aluko but it was just wide of the City goal. With two minutes to go before the break the Canaries extended their lead with a well worked free kick. |

With two minutes to go before the break the Canaries extended their lead with a well worked free kick. Jarvis quickly played the ball out to Patrick Bexfield who played a first time low ball in which Spillane flicked into the far corner. City could have extended their lead shortly after the break when Chris Martin tried to curl a shot past Legzdins but the Birmingham keeper was well placed to make a comfortable save. City were well on top by this stage and it was just the thickness of the crossbar that denied Seb Muddel after a good move started by Lewis and involving Martin and El Ouargui. Man Of The Match Patrick Bexfield made a great run through the middle to set up El Ouargui but with the goal beckoning the Dane could only pull his shot wide. |
