A Tale Of Two Penalties

NORWICH CITY UNDER 18's 0 CHARLTON ATHLETIC UNDER 18's 1

For the second week in a row City missed a first-half penalty, add to that a series of chances going begging and once again David Williams' side fail to collect any points.

That however does not reflect the whole story as this was a vastly improved display on recent weeks. While Williams will not be happy with their performance in front of goal, City completely dominated the first half and had chances to get something from the game after the interval.

As early as the fifth minute Norwich had a clear sight on goal when Michael Spillane sent a looping header from a Rossi Jarvis cross onto the roof of the net.

On the quarter-hour mark City were awarded a penalty when the lively Spillane was brought down. After missing from the spot last week, Lee Blackburn stepped aside for Matthew Halliday to take the kick but he side-footed his effort wide of the target.

City continued to look for the opening goal and it almost came when a cross-come-shot from Jarvis fooled everyone except the Charlton post.

Robert Eagle found himself in a good position but his half volley sailed wide of the far post.

Blackburn tried his luck from the edge of the box but Szaboics Kemenes was equal to his effort, and Kemenes was also on hand to turn a Spillane header round the post shortly before the break.

If City continued to play in this fashion after the break it was inevitable that they would score, but with fifty minutes on the clock it was The Addicks who found the net.

Joe Lewis was beaten by Nathan Ashton from the penalty spot after Halliday had been guilty of fouling his man.
City now faced an uphill struggle but they continued to take the game to Charlton with Chris Martin bringing a save out of Kemenes.

Spillane, who was involved in most things, saw a header go just wide, while in stoppage time Kemenes kept his best save till last, denying Nicky Howell after some good build up play involving Cave-Brown.
