City's Academy side took their unbeaten run to four games with a well deserved share of the points at Charlton on Friday. The result takes them nicely into this week's important trip to St. Mary's where they face high flying Southampton in the fourth round of the F.A.Youth Cup. With Rossi Jarvis set to travel to Aston Villa with the first team and Chris Martin and Seb Muddel taking exams at school U15, Bally Smart was drafted in for his first start in the league, although he did of course start the Youth Cup game at Burnley last month. The home side quickly got into their stride and The Canaries found themselves a goal adrift after just 12 minutes. A cross to the far post was lifted back into the danger area where Danny Phillips found enough space to slide the ball home. |

Lee Blackburn, one of the three maximum Under-19's allowed in the starting line-up, tried his luck with a free kick, but Rob Elliott in The Addicks' goal made a comfortable save. Chances were few and far between in the opening half although a delightful through ball from Adam Smith just eluded Asmat El Ouargui and Robert Eagle. Into the second half and Robert Eagle saw a shot from a tight angle saved by Elliot while at the other end a cross from Nathan Ashton was just too far in front of the outstretched leg of Paul Burt. With 70 minutes on the clock City found themselves back on level terms when El Ouargui was brought down in the penalty area, leaving referee Mr Croft no option but to point to the spot. |

Just as he had done at Southampton earlier in the season, Adam Gusterson sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot-kick. The home side set about restoring their lead but, as they had done at Chelsea last week, the City defence looked solid, indeed it was David Williams' side that might have ran out winners when late in the game Lee Blackburn had a good shout for a second penalty turned down. City Line-Up: Lewis, Cave-Brown, Willis, Gusterson, Halliday, Howlett, Smart [Bexfield 78], Blackburn, El Ouargui [Spillane 70], Smith, Eagle. Sub Not Used: Herbert. Top Canary: Adam Gusterson. |
