Norwich City Under-18s surrendered their unbeaten record in the FA Premier Academy League this season when they went down by the only goal at Chelsea on Saturday.

City had four wins and two draws to their credit before the trip to the Blues' new training complex at Cobham, but it was always going to be a difficult game for David Williams' side.

The result, however, still saw the Canaries in second place in the league, although Chelsea now find themselves on the same points.

Chelsea looked to take the game to Norwich in the first half, but City dealt with most things that the Blues could throw at them. Chances were few and far between for both sides, although Chelsea did have the lion's share of possession.

The game continued in a similar fashion after the break but, with fifteen minutes left, Chelsea scored the all-important goal when, with a quick break, they caught City on the wrong foot and 'keeper Joe Lewis was beaten by a shot away to his right.

City face Arsenal at Colney next Saturday and, with Williams away in Germany with the Wales Under-21's, it will be Academy manager Ricky Martin in charge for the game.

City Line-Up: Lewis, Cave-Brown, Gusterson, Spillane, Halliday, Howlett, Muddel, Thrale, Martin, Smart, Bexfield (Fisk 25).

Subs not used: Herbert, Quaye.
