Renton Injury Overshadows Academy Weekend

CHELSEA UNDER-18's 1 NORWICH CITY UNDER-18's 1

Saturday’s much deserved draw at Chelsea was completely overshadowed by the incident just 15 minutes before time when Canary striker Kris Renton suffered a double fracture to his left leg.

It quickly became apparent how serious the injury was when the referee quite rightly took both sets of players off the field for almost 15 minutes while City physio Rod Dyer and the Chelsea medical staff took care of Kris.
After the match Academy manager Ricky Martin joined Rod at the hospital and the pair of them didn’t arrive back in Norwich until the early hours of Sunday morning. Kris has since been operated on and is due to be released from hospital some time this week. Ricky insists that there will be no time scale set for Kris as to when he will be back in training, the main priority is that he makes a full recovery.

Everyone at FONCY and we feel all Norwich City fans would like to wish Kris a full and speedy recovery. That message also goes out to first year scholar Nick Davey who broke a bone in his foot in training last month. Nick is likely to be out until at least Christmas, and we would like to wish him a full recovery.

As for the game on Saturday City’s starting line-up included trialist Dean Wear at centre-back alongside captain Paul McLean. There was no score up until the incident that saw play held up for 15 minutes, but on the restart Chelsea took the lead on 78 minutes only for Norwich to hit back 3 minutes later through Ross Kelly.
