Asmat El Ouargui - hit the winner against Colchester
Norwich Under-18's managed a hard-fought win against Colchester at the weekend before heading off to Denmark this week for a training camp. City included professionals Spillane and Fisk in their starting line-up while Mark Sutton, a trialist from the Channel Islands, was amongst their substitutes.

The Canaries got off to an excellent start, going 1-0 up in the first minute. After a succession of slick passes Kurtis Byrne put the ball into the penalty box where Kris Renton controlled well and turned to put the ball in the back of the net.

Colchester equalized only seven minutes later. The City defence failed to deal with a looping through ball and a United striker was on hand to score over a stranded Steve Arnold.

On 18 minutes City were handed an excellent opportunity to go ahead again after Jamie Eames was fouled just inside the box after a jinxing run. Chris Martin stepped up to take the resulting penalty which the Colchester keeper managed to save with his legs.

City continued to pressurize the Colchester goal with both Jamie Eames and Kurtis Byrne going close.
The game was split into three thirty-minute thirds to allow extra coaching time and heat breaks. Soon after the first restart Kris Renton found himself through on goal but his well-driven shot went just wide of the post.

Colchester had more of the game in this second "third" and the game ebbed and flowed with both sides creating some good chances.

On 55 minutes City went 2-1 up through Asmat El Ouargui. The City striker broke down the right towards goal, only to lose possession. Not giving up the cause the Dane won the ball back to put it across the keeper and just inside the far post.

Soon after City could have gone 3-1 up when Chris Martin hit the bar.

The final third again saw chances on both sides and Colchester were unlucky not to find an equaliser.

First Ross Kelly went close for Norwich, before Colchester forced a good save from Steve Arnold and hit the post from the rebound.

Close to full time Luke Daley broke on the right and put in a cross from which the Colchester keeper made a point-blank save from Asmat El Ouargui. There was still time for another chance to fall to Colchester but City managed to complete their third successive pre-season victory.
