COVENTRY TAKE THE POINTS

NORWICH CITY UNDER-18's 0 COVENTRY CITY UNDER-18's 1

Coventry City left Colney with all three points on Saturday thanks in no small way to an outstanding performance from their keeper Jonathan Tuffey, who frustrated The Canaries throughout the game with a string of fine saves.

With the regular pitch already under going its summer overhaul by the Colney ground staff, the Under-18 game was switched to the Under-16 pitch with Gary Butcher's side moving onto the "home" of the Under-14's/15's.

It was City who made the early running with Chris Martin sending a half volley over the crossbar before Michael Spillane did much the same from the edge of the box.

City continued to create chances with Martin bringing out the first of a string of fine saves from Tuffey, while moments later it was Bally Smart who was denied by the Sky Blues keeper.

The visitors had hardly got sight of the City goal in the first-half, but it needed a smart clearance by Rossi Jarvis to break up a promising Coventry move shortly into the second-half.

However most of the action was still at the Coventry end and Martin was denied yet again by Tuffey with a finger-tip save to turn the ball round for a corner.

Even when Tuffey looked beaten with an effort from Robert Eagle, it was the Coventry defence who cleared the ball off the line.

Late in the game Joe Lewis made a fantastic double save to keep the scores level, but with just five minutes left on the clock it was Coventry who scored the all important goal. A long ball out of defence saw Kevin Thornton run onto the ball before lifting it over Lewis into the net.

City Line-Up: Lewis, Jarvis, Smith, Gusterson, Halliday, Spillane [Howlett 75], Cave-Brown, Fisk [Willis 75], Martin, Smart, Eagle.
