It was definitely a game of two halves at Diss on Saturday as Norwich under'18's came away with a 5-0 win, all the goals coming in the second-half. It was a breezy, warm summer afternoon as Diss kicked-off and the first chance fell to City as Damon Lathrope put an early free-kick wide. After ten minutes Diss started stringing some moves together and City started feeling the pressure in defence. It was thirty minutes before Norwich won their first corner and as the ball bobbled around inside the penalty area the referee awarded a penalty although the infringement was unclear. Seb Muddel stepped up to take the spot-kick but put the ball wide. Before half-time Steve Arnold in the City goal lost possession while dribbling the ball in his own area, but City saved the day as the ball deflected for a corner. |

The second-half saw City start with a new strike force of Chris Renton and Luke Daley, with Chris Martin playing just behind the front two. On 51 minutes it was Renton who shot just over the bar after a poor clearance from the Diss keeper. A minute later City opened the scoring after an impressive passing move down the right. The ball was pulled back across the face of the goal for Kurtis Byrne to plant a header firmly into the back of the net. City were now starting to get on top in the game and the second goal came in the 58th minute with Chris Martin finishing with a low shot from just outside the box after good work on the right by Luke Daley. It was all City now and on 66 minutes an own-goal from Kwame Jones put City three up after Chris Renton pressurised the Diss defender into mis-directing his backward header. Renton got onto the score sheet himself a couple of minutes later, the Scottish striker controlling the ball nicely before hitting a screamer into the back of the net from just outside the box. There was a long hold up as Diss player Ricci Butler received treatment for a nasty looking injury after slipping on the dry surface. The City physio helped out as the unfortunate player was carried off in a leg-splint. Later an ankle injury was diagnosed with Butler taken to hospital as a precautionary measure. From the re-start Chris Renton broke down the left flank and put in a fine cross for Luke Daley to make it 5-0 with a header. Despite a fine second-half from Chris Renton, the Man of the Match award over ninety minutes goes to Tom Miller. City Line-Up: Arnold, Gareth Matthews, O'Toole, Lathrope, Quaye, Miller, Eames, El Ouargui, Martin, Muddel, Smart. Subs: Rudd, Bryne, Daley, Renton. Top Canary: Tom Miller. Attendance: 240. |
