Norwich Tumble Again

Norwich City Under-18s 0 Fulham Under-18s 2

Norwich City suffered defeat for the fifth consecutive match on Saturday and now find themselves rooted to the bottom of Academy Group A after two first half opportunist Fulham goals netted the points for the visitors, on a cold and grey afternoon.

Norwich were again unlucky not to find the opening goal as they constantly attacked the Fulham penalty area in an exciting opening fifteen minute spell.

On nine minutes good exchanges between Joshua Dawkin and Sam Habergham found the full back swinging the ball into the Fulham penalty area and while Kris Renton could not force a directed header on goal, the ball fell kindly for Luke Daley to strike the ball hard and low, only for his shot to be charged down.

Sam Habergham then followed up with another delivery in the penalty area, and this time it saw Danny Kelly shoot wide of the far post.

On thirteen minutes Norwich should have been in front. Korey Smith and Luke Daley were looking dangerous along the right flank and the latter’s cross into the Fulham penalty area found Kris Renton, only for him to see his right foot shot cleared on the line by Lewis Thomas.

But Kris Renton immediately followed this up when, with his back to the goal from around ten yards he swivelled to drive the ball towards goal only to see it rebound off the inside of the far post and into the arms of the Fulham goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.

On Sixteen minutes Fulham went in front, with an example of a smash and grab raid. Danny Hoesen, with his skilled ball work, eventually worked the ball from midfield to Kai Bichard who, with the ball at his feet, drifted infield and from twenty five yards curled the ball out of the reach of Declan Rudd into the the top corner.

Norwich again were unlucky when a near post save from Wes Foderingham kept out Joshua Dawkin, again after good movement from the right.

On thirty one minutes, Fulham increased their lead. Michael Uwezu sprinted away along the right touchline in the Norwich half of the park before Declan Rudd came from his goal to try and close down, but the Fulham striker managed somehow, from the acutest of angles, to place the ball just inside the far post.

It was cruel.

Declan Rudd then produced the save of the match as Danny Hoesen made strides towards the Norwich goal, before unleashing the ball, with the Norwich goalkeeper dived to this right to parry the ball away.

In the closing moments of the first half Danny Kelly glanced a header wide following a short corner from Joshua Dawkin, with the ball flighted in from Korey Smith.

The second half got underway, but it was not until the seventieth minute that Norwich substitute Johnbull Omoregie cut through Fulham with a determined run, before shooting for goal, his shot taking a slight deflection and earned a corner.

On seventy five minutes Sam Habergham, who had an outstanding match, sent in yet another superb cross which the advancing Korey Smith was unable to direct towards goal.

Norwich’s last chance of the match, trying to salvage something from the game, fell to Kris Renton on eighty minutes. Damon Lathrope managed to cross the ball into the Fulham penalty area, which Renton seized onto, only to see his bullet of a shot clawed away by Wes Foderingham.
