Norwich missed out on all three points and second spot in the FA Premier Academy League, Group A on Saturday as Fulham's final assault of the match pierced their defence in the second minute of stoppage time to earn a share the points at Motspur Park. With a noon kick-off on a bitterly cold day, Ricky Martin moved striker Danny Kelly to centre-back in a shuffled defence to play alongside David Stephens. However it was Fulham on eight minutes who created the first opening when Matthews was relived to see the ball whizz low past his right hand post. Both sides started to create chances with flowing football and Oakley out on the left flank with his dribbling skills and crossing was certainly the eye catcher of the first half, causing some concern for the Fulham fullback Marquez-Sanchez who had to face him. On twenty one minutes Norwich took the lead. Ball, who was enjoying his exploits in midfield, advanced into the Fulham penalty area and played the ball wide to Oakley who delivered a cross into the six yard area where Clarke raced in to stab home at the far post. Fulham responded and Matthews in the Norwich goal was kept occupied as he had to deal with a couple of on target efforts, the best which he finger-tipped over his crossbar. Fulham had a goal disallowed on the stroke of half time for a hand ball in the build up and Norwich saw the half out with the slender lead. With Fulham upping their game, especially with forwards Peniket and Trotta seeing a lot of the play, Ricky Martin tried to take some pressure off the defence by switching Danny Kelly to his main role of striker and bringing on defender Jones with just over a quarter of a hour remaining. Within minutes, a short corner from the right hand side undid Norwich as Peniket glanced the ball home from the resulting cross to equalise. On seventy-eight minutes Norwich regained the lead as Danny Kelly exposed the Fulham defence with some support from his brother to drill the ball home with right foot from twenty yards beyond the young Italian goalkeeper Bettinelli in the Fulham goal. With the ninety minutes up Norwich were surely going to see this out and made a further substitution when Loza entered the play. But when Peniket penetrated the Norwich defence with a burst of pace in the time added on by referee Mr Eva he did the impossible to shatter Norwich by applying an angled shot across Matthews to level matters up. From the re-start Norwich saw Bettinelli keep out Clarke's near post strike with a save from his boot, practically the last kick of the match. City Line-Up: Matthews, Francomb, Gordon. Ball, D. Kelly, D. Stephens, Clarke, S. Kelly, Drmola (89 Loza), Osemwegie, Oakley (73 Jones). Sub Not Used: Clunan. Norwich Man of the Match: Oakley. |
