Histon Town 3 Norwich City Under-18s 2

Ricky Martin and Neil Adams, who is recovering from a cricket related injury, saw their side go down by the odd goal in 5 in an entertaining game against a youthful Histon side on Wednesday night.

Having played in the game at Fakenham last week, there was another run out for Australian trialist Max Jorder, while Diss Town’s George Wilson was included in the six substitutes. Meanwhile for Histon former City scholar Ross Kelly was in the starting line up and with brothers Danny and Sam in the Canaries squad the Kelly household must have been somewhat empty.

It was a goalless first half with Jorder hitting the woodwork twice for the Canaries, while Kenny Reeves saw one effort go just wide of the target and then he was denied by the Histon keeper late in the half.

Ricky Martin introduced City’s new strike force of Patrick Drmola and David Nwaogu for the start of the second half and it paid dividends after just 2 minutes when Nwaogu opened the scoring and then entertained the crowd with a Robert Earnshaw style celebration.

City’s lead was short-lived however; the giant David Obaze headed Histon back on level terms before Lee Brennan fired them in front.

Histon extended their lead when full back Callum Stewart spotted Sam Grieveson off his line and from 5 yards inside his own half he lobbed the City keeper.

Shortly before full time Drmola fired home an unstoppable 25 yard effort but before City could mount another attack the referee called a halt to proceedings.

City Line up: Grieveson, Jorder, D.Kelly, Francomb, Gordon [S.Kelly 85], Brindley [Oakley 65], Omoregie, Ball [Wilson 45], A.Stephens [Nwaogu 45], Clarke, Reeves [Drmola 45].

Sub not used: Matthews.
