A goal just four minutes into Saturday's Academy League game at Playford Road from one time Canary trialist Danny Haynes was enough to give Ipswich Town victory over David Williams' side. This is not the first time that Haynes has scored against the Canaries, since the former Charlton schoolboy failed to impress during trials at Colney twelve months ago. A successful trial period for Town saw him offered a scholarship by the Blues and when he returned to Colney in November he was on target in the 1-1 draw. Even before Town opened their account City might have found the net themselves when a cross from Asmat El Ouargui was met on the volley by Chris Martin but his effort was just inches over the target. The action quickly switched to the other end where the pace and strength of Haynes carried him past the City defence before he side-footed the ball wide of an outstretched Shane Herbert. |

Playing against his former club, Robert Eagle was looking lively down the left flank but it was Martin again who went close for Norwich when a low drive forced Town keeper Shane Supple into a smart save down to his right. Norwich were certainly enjoying the lions share of the game and Town were fortunate to escape a goalmouth scramble that City could not get the final touch on. Just before the break City had their best chance of the game when Andrew Cave-Brown just beat Supple to the ball to lift it over the keeper. To his credit Supple just managed to get a touch which was enough to take the pace off the ball allowing a Town defender to head the ball off the line. |

Despite being a goal adrift, it had certainly been City's half and more of the same after the break would have seen them get back into the game. Unfortunately Town never gave them that opportunity as they stepped their game up and if it had not been for two good saves from Herbert to deny Cathal Lordan and Haynes, Town might have secured a much more convincing victory. City Line-Up: Herbert, Cave-Brown, Jarvis, Gusterson, Halliday, Howlett, Blackburn [Willis 70], Spillane, El Ouargui, Martin, Eagle. Subs Not Used: Lewis, Bexfield, Smart. Top Canary: Andrew Cave-Brown |

City fielded no less than six trialists in their starting line up at Ipswich as they ran out 2-1 winners. Just ten seconds into the game City opened the scoring through Luke Daley. Town hit back to make the scores level at the break but a superb strike from outside the area by Jamie Forshaw gave Gary Butcher's side the win. |
