Saturday's local deby at Portman Road saw Town take all three points after City failed to come back after conceding a goal after just two minutes from Town striker Billy Clarke. The game also saw The Canaries pick up yet another serious injury, the fourth in consecutive games. Following injuries to Alvin Quaye at West Ham, Andrew Fisk at Charlton and last weeks injury to defender Adam Gusterson against league leaders Southampton, this week it was Andrew Cave-Brown who looked in serious problems with an ankle injury sustained just before the break. Doubtless David Williams, who is currently in Cyprus with the Welsh U21's, will be taking an anxious look at Rod Dyer's treatment table when he returns to Colney midweek with one eye on Saturday's home fixture against Crystal Palace and the other on Thursday's third round F.A.Youth Cup draw. |

With Town looking to raise funds for their Academy set up after seeing their sponsor Cruise Control suffer financial problems, Saturday's game was switched to Portman Road with Town Chairman David Sheepshanks encouraging fans to come along to support The Academy, and while there may not have been the 5000 anticipated supports there was never the less a very healthy sprinkling of fans seated in the Britannia Stand. For the home fans the game burst into life almost from the first whistle when with less than two minutes on the clock City found themselves a goal behind. Tony Boto raced clear of his marker down the right flank before sending in a low cross that somehow found its way to the back post where Clarke had all the time in the world to beat Joe Lewis with a measured shot. |

City, clearly caught on the hop, had to endure further pressure from the home side, indeed The Canaries did not get sight on the Town goal until 15 minutes into the game when Chris Martin glanced a header wide of the far post from a Bally Smart cross. The home side were looking to extend their lead when Captain Chris Casement forced Lewis into an important save, while moments later one time Canary trialist Danny Haynes looked to have the goal at his mercy until City Captain Matthew Halliday made a vital tackle. Shortly before the break City's best move of the game involving Smart and Cave-Brown resulted in Lee Howlett testing Oskar Peturrson in the Town goal with a 25-yard effort. Williams was forced into a substitution just one minute before the break when Cave-Brown was replaced by Asmat El Ouargui. |

It was City who almost sprung the surprise just seconds into the second half when a well worked short corner routine saw Robert Eagle, playing against his old club, let fly with a rising shot that Peturrson did well to turn over the bar. Haynes, who had scored in both corresponding fixtures last season, was keen to get his name on the scoresheet once again and he went close on two occasions. The first was a shot that had Lewis scampering across his goal, and the second an angled drive that crashed into the side netting. Moments before the final whistle City might have sneaked an equalising goal when Smart found space in the box, but his effort was foiled by the outstretched boot of Peturrson. |
