King's Lynn had no answer to a rampant Norwich City Academy side at Colney on Friday night as the Canaries knocked eleven past the Linnets in front of a good sized crowd on a glorious summer evening at the City training ground. There were two first year professionals in the City starting line up with Patrick Bexfield starting the game in midfield while Bally Smart was in his familier left-wing position. The goals came thick and fast with Nick Davey opening the score on six minutes before Smart doubled the Canaries' advantage on nine minutes. Smart scored his second on 23 minutes before Ross Kelly made it four on 30 minutes just before the referee signalled the first of two breaks in the match with the game being played in three 30-minute periods. A minute after the restart Smart completed his hat-trick while impressive trialist Josh Jirvandy scored the sixth on 45 minutes. Kurtis Byrne made it seven for Norwich just two minutes before the second break, but it still left time before the break for Davey to get his second, this time from the penalty spot. Kelly scored his second on 70 minutes while seven minutes later Davey completed his hat-trick, while deep in stoppage time Davey added a fourth goal to his tally. City Line-Up: Arnold, Hunter, Yong, Jirvandy, McLean (Hudson 60), Bexfield (Richardson 30), Kelly, Smith (Scanlon 60), Davey, Byrne, Smart (Dawkin 60). |
