City's Academy season got underway on Saturday when Ricky Martin took his young side to Leeds United. Martin was without the services of Korey Smith and Tom Adeyemi who both played starring rolls for the first team at Carrow Road with Smith not only making his first start for the first team but at the same time he had the crowd on their feet with a blistering second goal for The Canaries in a 5-2 win over Wycombe. Whilst the action came thick and fast at Carrow Road, earlier in the day it was a remarkable game at Leeds as City found themselves three goals adrift with 84 minutes on the clock before a sensational final six minutes saw City score three goals themselves to earn a point that they certainly deserved. With Declan Rudd on the bench at Carrow Road and Jed Steer picking up an injury in midweek, Martin called on the services of Kai Hewitt, himself a Norfolk U18 keeper. City made a bright start to the game causing the home side plenty of problems and they should have taken the lead on ten minutes when Patrick Drmola fired a volley wide of the target from inside the six-yard box. City had a lucky escape on 28 minutes when a free kick struck the crossbar, but just seven minutes later they did fall behind from the penalty spot after the referee spotted some pushing although even the Leeds players were not sure what the penalty had been awarded for. City went looking for the equaliser after the break and looked like they might get something from the game but in a mad four minute spell they conceded two further goals which looked impossible to come back from. On 84 minutes the Canaries were awarded a penalty which David Nwaogu converted, but this still left them 2 goals adrift and chasing the game. Suddenly however they were back in the hunt on 88 minutes when Danny Kelly raced onto a through bal to finish with some style. With the game having moved into injury time there was still time left for a last roll of the dice for City when captain George Francomb danced his way passed his marker to rifle the ball into the back of the net to trigger wild celebrations in the Canary camp.
