CITY HIT FOUR AGAINST THE REDS

NORWICH CITY UNDER 18's 4 LIVERPOOL UNDER 18's 0

City's Academy side finished their pre season warm up campaign in some style at Colney on Saturday when they beat Liverpool 4-0. Two goals in either half were enough to sink the Reds who could have little complaint about the result, indeed with the woodwork coming to their rescue on two occasions the score could have been greater.

Midfielder Lee Howlett almost caught the visitors napping inside the first 10 seconds when he saw a shoot whistle inches wide of the upright.

City's front pairing of Danny Crow and Josh Clarke were causing the Liverpool defence all sorts of problems and Crow went close before City opened the scoring on 24 minutes. It was Olley Willis who scored the opener from close range but it was the build up play that brought a great round of applause from the good size crowd.

Matthew Halliday

Matthew Halliday not only scored a goal, he was a rock at the centre of the City defence
Josh Clarke

Although Josh Clarke failed to get on the scoresheet he constantly caused problems for the Liverpool defence
Robert Eagle created the opening for City's second goal when he picked out Crow in the box who finished with some style with a half-volley on the turn. Crow almost made it three shortly before the break but the woodwork denied the City frontman.

Ten minutes into the second half and City did get a third when Clarke headed a ball back across goal for Matthew Halliday to head home.

Clarke might have added his name to the scoresheet but first Paul Lancaster's outstretched leg saved an almost certain goal and then with the keeper beaten it was the woodwork that denied the City striker.

The fourth goal came in stoppage time when a delightful through ball from Nicky Howell set Crow clear and with just the keeper to beat he calmly rounded Lancaster to slot the ball home.
