City’s Academy side bounced back from their heavy defeat last week at the hands of Leicester City to record a slender 2-1 victory over MK Dons at Colney on Saturday. Ricky Martin gave a first start to schoolboy Theo Jones while strikers Patrick Drmola and David Nwaogu had both recovered from injury and started the game on the bench. City started the game in a positive fashion which saw Danny Kelly denied by Dons keeper Ashley Harrison in the first couple of minutes after the City striker picked up a delightful through ball from Ryan Oakley. Josh Dawkin did well to intercept a crossfield pass allowing him a shot on target from a tight angle that cannoned off the outside of the post. City had a close call moments later when Troy Farden blasted a shot against the crossbar. However with twelve minutes on the clock City opened the scoring when after some good work by Dawkin, Tyree Clarke pulled the ball back for Oakley to fire in his first goal for the U18s. The Dons might have pulled level shortly after but Igor Coronado could not keep his lob on target when he caught City keeper Kai Hewitt off his line. When they did get a shot on target through Charlie Collins, Hewitt was on hand to make a good save. With 28 minutes on the clock the visitors did manage to pull themselves level when a right wing cross somehow eluded Hewitt, allowing Jordan Ivey-Ward a close range header. Just seven minutes later and City were back in front with once again Clarke the provider, this time his header was met by Kelly who guided the ball into the far corner. Shortly before the break Clarke tried to get on the scoresheet himself after he latched onto a Dawkin cross but his effort went just over the bar. The visitors almost equalised for the second time just after the break but Sam Habergham was on hand to get in a timely tackle to deny Martel Powell. City then had a golden opportunity to extend their lead when Clarke was brought down inside the area, but JohnBull Osemwegie struck the outside of the post with his spot kick. Kelly was again denied by the legs of Harrison after some slick build up play from the Canaries involving Osemwegie and Oakley, while at the other end Hewitt needed two attempts to deny the visitors. It was all still to play for in the dying moments with Farden smashing a volley into the side netting for The Dons while for the third time in the game Harrison denied Kelly before the City striker was replaced by Drmola. City Line-Up: Hewitt, Jones, Brindley, Osemwegie, Dumic, Habergham, Clarke, Ball, D. Kelly [Drmola 88], Oakley [Nwaogu 83], Dawkin. Subs Not Used: S.Kelly, Roberts.
