Two set pieces from the home side proved to be the Canaries undoing as they went down 2-0 at Milton Keynes on Saturday. David Williams was without the services of three key players going into the game, with Kris Renton on Scottish Under-17 duty, while Gareth Matthews and Kurtis Byrne are currently away with the Republic of Ireland Under-18's and are likely to play against their team-mate on Wednesday in the UEFA Qualifying Group in Germany. City had the advantage of a strong wind in the first 45 minutes but failed to put any pressure on the MK Dons who were all set to take advantage of the conditions after the break. The home side took the lead on 50 minutes when City conceded a free-kick in a dangerous position and, when the ball was floated into the penalty area, it was the home side who reacted first when the ball was headed past City keeper Steve Arnold. Just ten minutes later and City found themselves two goals adrift when the Canaries failed to learn from their previous mistake when from a corner MK Dons headed home their second. Williams was critical of his team's performance, insisting that, while at times they passed the ball well on a difficult playing surface, their overall performance suggested that they deserved little from the game. |
