Mildenhall Town were edged out by two goals to one in an entertaining friendly at Recreation Way. John Sands had given the hosts a lead going into the break, but Norwich City's youngsters scored twice in the second half to claim victory. Mildenhall started brightly, and almost took an eighth minute lead. Ryan Foster threaded a neat pass between Norwich's centre back pairing but Sands could only lift his effort wide of goal. Danny Kelly then headed just wide of Ross Billham's goal as the visitors began to play some slick passing football. However, it was the home side that grabbed the lead. Sands capitalized on some hesitation in the Norwich defence before neatly lifting the ball over Sam Greiverson in goal with 31 minutes played. The situation worsened further the away side just four minutes later when Dario Dumic was given his marching orders for striking Sands. Sands was proving to be a real handful for the Norwich defence and it was his flick on which released Dan Partridge, but the new signing from Diss Town sent his effort over the bar on the stroke of half time. Norwich started the second half the sharper of the two sides and with 51 minutes gone they drew level. Kenny Reeves raided down the right wing before crossing for Kelly who steered his effort beyond the reach of a wrong footed Billham. On the hour Aaron Turner split the Norwich defence with a clever pass which Chris Barrett collected. The forward chipped the ball over Greiverson's outstretched arms but his effort dropped wide of the post. Up the other end Billham showed great acrobatics to prevent an own goal from captain Dave Werthman, but he was powerless to prevent Norwich's 81st minute winner. Substitute Patrick Drmola broke clear of the Mildenhall defence before drilling an effort low into the bottom left hand corner of the net. |
