Norwich opened their new FA Premier Academy League campaign with a well deserved away win at Calmont Road, against battling opponents Millwall, which was settled by a solitary goal midway through the first half.

In bright sunshine, with temperatures reaching 23 degrees, Norwich made the early running and their attacks in the opening fifteen minutes should have brought them an early goal.

Damon Lathrope fired a shot in from outside the Millwall penalty area after just two minutes, which was swiftly followed by another from Jordan Yong after receiving a cross field ball.

On twelve minutes a through ball from Ross Kelly was latched onto by Kris Renton inside the penalty area, only to be denied by a superb reflex save from Sam Walker, the Millwall goalkeeper.
On twenty three minutes, Norwich gained the breakthrough. Ross Kelly raced away on the right flank, and from the by-line flighted the ball into the penalty area. Tom Miller, sensing an invitation, attacked the ball from outside the penalty area, planting a firm header beyond the reach of Walker.

Early in the second half saw Millwall attempting to claw back an equaliser, and Declan Rudd was called upon immediately, to turn away a goal bound header.

With Paul McLean and Danny Kelly in fine form marshalling the defence Norwich were making life difficult for the hosts.
