Jamie Eames - scored the consolation goal against Newcastle
Norwich City's Academy side came away from Newcastle United empty-handed on Saturday morning as David Williams' side were beaten 3-1.

A goal behind at the interval, the home side scored a further two goals after the break before the Canaries scored what was to be a consolation goal 15 minutes from time.

With the long distance involved, David Williams' side travelled on Friday and with his connections at Leeds United the team trained at the Yorkshire club's training ground on Friday afternoon.

Having played in the Jack Constance Cup at Beccles on Monday night Scottish defender Paul McLean made his first start for the Academy.

City had two or three good opportunities in the first half, the best falling to Kris Renton whose header from a Jamie Eames' cross was well saved by the United keeper.

City fell behind midway in the half after an attack broke down allowing Newcastle to score on the counter attack.
On the hour mark Norwich went 2-0 behind after a mix-up in defence and shortly afterwards, following a right wing cross, their centre forward had the time to bring the ball under control before firing it past City keeper Steve Arnold.

Fifteen minutes before full-time City produced a glimmer of hope when Jamie Eames found the net with a well taken free-kick, but despite a late rally the home side held on to secure all three points.

City Line-Up: Arnold, Bexfield, O'Toole, Miller, McLean, Lathrope (Kelly 80 mins), Eames, Martin, Renton (Daley 70 mins), Byrne (Muddel 60 mins), Smart.
