A goal just either side of the break from schoolboy Chris Martin was enough to secure David Williams side their fourth league win of the campaign. In conditions that did little to contribute to the game, City mastered the gale force winds so much so that Shane Herbert in the Canaries goal had something of a quiet afternoon. Norwich were playing head-long into the wind in the first half but it made little difference as they took the game to the visitors who were just one place above them in the league. Andrew Cave-Brown made a great run down the right flank, beating a couple of defenders before the ball broke lose to Michael Spillane who saw his first time shot blocked. No sooner had Cave-Brown returned to his defensive duties than he was called upon to make an important clearance as The Eagles threatened. |

With the wind doing its best to spoil the game it was 36 minutes into the game before City had another attempt at goal. A stirring run from midfield from Spillane saw him pick out Martin on the edge of the box and the striker sent a curling shot into the far corner which left the Palace keeper David Wilkinson firmly rooted to the spot. The visitors might have pulled level shortly before the break when they tried to take advantage of the wind with a long range effort that Herbert comfortably tipped over the bar. With just three minutes of the second half gone City extended their lead when a free kick from Matthew Halliday was not cleared properly and with the ball falling for Martin the City striker wasted little time in blasting the ball into the net, again just from the edge of the box. While Palace failed to use the wind to their advantage City were certainly not going to be guilty of that as Halliday let fire with a free kick from fully fifty yards that Wilkinson had to turn onto the crossbar. |

Next it was the turn of Martin to be denied by the crossbar in what would have been his hat-trick, this coming after some good approach play by Olly Willis. Having hit the bar once from fifty yards Halliday tried his luck again from the same distance with the same result - the woodwork coming to Palaces rescue. Palace might have staged a grandstand finish when Scott Marshall went close but Herbert appeared to have the danger covered at the foot of the post. City Line-Up: Herbert, Cave-Brown, Jarvis, Gusterson, Halliday, Howlett, Willis [Howell 84], Spillane, Martin, Bexfield, Eagle. Subs Not Used: Lewis, Daley, Smart, Bussens. Top Canary: Chris Martin. |

Gary Butcher fielded two Danish trialists in his starting line up as his side threw away a two goal lead. James Patterson and Bally Smart were City's scorers but with the wind to their advantage after the break Palace hit back to take the win. |
