A goal midway through the first half was enough to see Norwich City Academy side return empty handed from Crystal Palace on Saturday with Kurtis Byrne and Gareth Matthews away on Republic of Ireland U17 duty and Kris Renton picking up an injury whilst also with the same squad.

David Williams was limited on numbers and therefore it was an ideal opportunity to draft Michael Spillane who is short on games into the starting line up.

The only goal of the match came during the first 45 minutes in a half that was dominated by the young Eagles when City keeper Steve Arnold had no chance with a shot from the edge of the area that took a wicked deflection.

The Canaries came much more into the game after Williams' half time team talk with defender Paul McLean going close with a header, just as he had done for Reserves at Northampton midweek. Striker Luke Daley also had two good chances to get on the score sheet and although the Palace keeper did not have a good day at the office, City failed to capitalise on his mistakes.
City Line-Up: Arnold, Miller, Bexfield, Spillane, McLean, Kelly, Eames, Martin, Daley, Muddel (Smart 70), Lathrope.

Subs Not Used: Quaye, O'Toole.

Top Canary: Chris Martin.
