A goal just five minutes from time from substitute Sam Kelly saw City's Academy side return to winning ways with a 3-2 victory over Souhampton at Colney. City had to come from a goal behind to take all three points in a game that was spoilt somewhat by the blustery conditions and driving rain. Ricky Martin was forced into a late late change when Jed Steer had a reaction to a wrist injury suffered in training on Friday, and so U16 keeper Remy Matthews took his place in the starting line, his first game at this level. The visitors made the perfect start taking the lead after just five minutes when City failed to deal with a cross allowing Jordan Keegan to fire the ball home beyond the reach of Matthews. The Saints might have doubled their advantage shortly after when Jordace Houser- Spooner saw a shot go just wide of the far post. Ryan Oakley was causing the visitors defence problems down the right flank and he almost set up Danny Kelly but his cross was just behind the City striker. Oakley was enjoying plenty of the ball and he latched onto a flick on from Kelly before setting up Patrich Drmola whose shot went just over the bar. With 27 minutes on the clock City pulled themselves level and it was that man Oakley who caused all the damage when he sent in a dangerous cross that Saints defender Lloyd Foot turned into his own net. Just ten minutes later and City took the lead when Alex Stephens sent in an inviting cross that Danny Kelly ran onto to tuck the ball beyond Steve Mowthorpe in the Saints goal. City should have extended their lead shortly after the break when inviting crosses first from the left and then from the right somehow eluded Drmola. Oakley again was the danger man when he sent in a cross that Kelly headed down for Drmola to send in a tremendous shot that somehow was cleared off the line. Southampton were far from finished however as they duly indicated when Lloyd Foot sent a header crashing against the upright, but with 80 minutes on the clock they did manage to pull themselves level when Callum McNish curled a shot beyond Matthews. Martin introduced Sam Kelly, the younger brother of Danny, and with just five minutes left on the clock the youngster fired City back in front scoring his first goal at this level. David Nwaogu set the goal up when he beat his man to pick out Sam Kelly at the far post who fired the ball beyond Mowthorpe. Southampton went all out for the equaliser and it needed a good save in injury time from Matthews to give City a well deserved win.
