City Crash To Spurs

NORWICH CITY UNDER-18's 0 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR UNDER-18's 4

After an encouraging opening 45 minutes, it all went pear-shaped for City's Academy side after the break as Spurs ran in four goals to take a comprehensive victory over David Williams' side on Saturday.

Having made his return from injury in the reserve team match against Colchester on Monday night, Rossi Jarvis was in the starting line up playing at left back, no doubt Nigel Worthington looking for him to become cover for Adam Drury should the Canaries captain be sidelined at any time.

Jarvis soon made his presence felt when he was on hand to head a ball back across goal where Alvin Quaye will feel he should have done better than stab the ball wide from just five yards.

Jarvis was then on hand at the other end where he had to clear the ball after City keeper Steve Arnold parried a shot to deny Terry Dixon.

Having scored the only goal of the game at Reading last week, Kurtis Byrne went close with a header just over the bar, again Jarvis had a hand in the assist.

Ross Kelly tried his luck from 25 yards but, unlike his goal for the reserves on Monday, he could not get this effort on target.

City had their best chance of the opening 45 minutes deep in stoppage time when Byrne raced clear away to the right and while his angled shot was only inches wide of the far post if he had looked up he would have seen Luke Daley completely unmarked on the penalty spot.

It took the visitors just ten minutes to open the scoring after the break when substitute Matthew Wells worked his way into space to receive a left wing cross before firing the ball into the roof of the net.

Just five minutes later and this time the danger came down the right wing when a cross was whipped in for David Hutton to head the ball into the far corner.

City appeared to have no answer and on 70 minutes the game was all but over when The Canaries reacted slow to a well worked free kick that finished with Tomas Pekhart firing the ball past Arnold.

Quaye went close with a header from a Jamie Eames corner but with fifteen minutes left on the clock it was Spurs who were to find the net yet again when Hutton rose to head home his second.
