Martin Strike Not Enough Against Spurs

NORWICH CITY UNDER-18's 1 TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR UNDER-18's 2

David Williams' side couldn't finish their home campaign with a win as they went down 2-1 to Spurs at Colney on Saturday.

The scoreline was not a true reflection on the game however, as City dominated for long periods as the Colney faithful were treated to some entertaining football from the Canaries, and all this in delightful sunshine.

With Andrew Fisk having picked up a dead leg in the reserve team fixture against Fulham midweek, Lee Howlett made what was probably his last appearance for City, playing alongside Patrick Bexfield in the centre of the park.

It was City who started the brighter of the two sides with Andrew Cave-Brown taking the opportunity to get forward to support the attack as Chris Martin tested David Button with a shot that the Spurs keeper saved comfortably.

Button was again called into action, this time blocking a shot from Seb Muddel after the Canaries striker used his strength to brush aside the attention of a Spurs defender.

At the other end Steve Arnold had to be alert to save from Radwan Hamed, while a great move involving Martin and Muddel finished with a curling shot from Bally Smart blocked.

City were certainly in the driving seat and could count themselves unlucky when a Robert Eagle corner was met by captain Matthew Halliday, his header being cleared off the goal-line by Chris Riley.

With the minutes ticking away to the break Patrick Bexfield twice went close. The first a shot just wide of the far post, the second a spectacular volley that looked destined for the net until a Spurs defender blocked the shot.

It was a quiet opening to the second period until Spurs broke the deadlock on 65 minutes when Jacques Maghoma beat Arnold from close range after the City keeper had save two initial efforts.

Just two minutes later and City were back on level terms when Smart picked out Martin just inside the box, the City striker doing well to control the ball before lifting it past Button into the net.

City continued to push forward and might have taken the lead with efforts from Eagle and Muddel but on 80 minutes it was the visitors who wrapped the points up when Jake Livermore beat Arnold with a low shot.
