Kris Renton

Kris Renton - scored two goals in his first game as an Academy scholar
Norwich Academies Under-18's kicked off their season on Saturday with a friendly at Colney against Waltham Forest. On a sunny day, a cool breeze at Colney gave ideal conditions for David Williams and his side to get to work. The coaches agreed on playing three 30-minute "thirds" to allow more time for coaching during the game.

As well as the new scholars for this year, David Williams also took the opportunity to have a look at New Zealand international Otis Maddison, who started on the bench.

City started strongly with Chris Martin hitting a post on ten minutes and Bally Smart put Seb Muddel through ten minutes later, with the striker's shot grazing the outside of the post.

Chris Martin was pulled back when through on goal with the referee already having blown for a free kick but City were not to be denied as Seb Muddel put the Canaries 1-0 just before the end of the first thirty-minute period.

Soon after the restart Waltham Forest pulled a goal back although some City players thought the goal had resulted from an offside position.
On forty minutes Chris Martin restored City's lead, firmly planting his shot in the back of the net after some flowing build-up play from Norwich.

Fifteen minutes later the Canaries were 3-1 up as Martin fired in from outside the area following a corner.

On the hour Kris Renton made it four, with the Scot beating the keeper to the ball after being put through by Martin. The Forest keeper needed treatment following the goal and couldn't continue.

In the final third of the match Kris Renton added a fifth following some good passing between himself and Luke Daley to make the Scottish striker's start to his Academy scholarship a memorable one.
