Norwich City produced an immaculate all-round performance in conquering a good Watford outfit with Kris Renton notching two well timed goals, one in each half, to seal victory in front of a good attendance at Colney. On a misty and overcast morning in Norfolk, it took only three minutes for Norwich to set their sights on goal. Damon Lathrope, advancing from midfield, sent a twenty-five yarder just past a post. A minutes later Jordan Yong outpaced Lee Hodgson along the left flank and cut inside before striking well from inside the Watford penalty area, with Jonathon North performing heroics in palming the ball away for a corner. On twenty minutes Ross Kelly got Kris Renton in on the act, but the Norwich forward lifted the ball over the crossbar. |

But Watford should have taken the lead on twenty one minutes. Marvin Sordell got clear on the right, and caught the Norwich defence flat footed and centred low into the Norwich penalty area. With Declan Rudd unable to cut out the cross, Billy Gibson raced forward, with a goal beckoning, but astonishingly, stroked the ball against the outside of the Norwich post. Norwich on twenty four minutes then took a deserved lead. Luke Daley sped along the right wing before crossing low and Kris Renton in the Watford penalty area struck the ball first time high into the net with Jonathon North well beaten. Twenty six minutes, and Declan Rudd was called upon. Watford mounted a foray around the Norwich penalty area before Billy Gibson produced a good save from the Norwich goalkeeper, diving to turn the ball away from goal. |

Jonathon North then kept Watford in the match with late first half saves from Korey Smith and then Jordan Yong , the latter seeing his shot parried away. Into the second-half and Norwich kept up the momentum. On fifty nine minutes Ross Kelly sent Luke Daley clear. Closing in on goal, Luke fired in, and Jonathon North kept out the goal bound effort. The Norwich defence were keeping their concentration, and were being threatened to a degree by Liam Henderson and the dangerous Kieron Forbes. It always seemed that Norwich would need the second goal, and Kris Renton duly obliged, on seventy four minutes. Korey Smith started the attack from midfield, and released Luke Daley along the right touchline. With his speed again troubling the Watford defence, the Norwich winger provided another low cross into the Watford penalty area which eluded all, and there was Kris Renton hovering to smash the ball past the Watford goalkeeper, and his morning’s work was done to seal victory for Norwich. City Line-Up: Rudd, Matthews, Habergham, Lathrope, McLean, D. Kelly, Daley, R. Kelly (Stephens 80), Renton, Smith (Adeyemi 88), Yong. Subs Not Used: Miller |
