While the first team were locked in a five-goal thriller at Carrow Road on Saturday, David Williams' side were involved in a similar tussle with West Ham at their Little Heath training ground. Unfortunately for the Canaries the game finished with a similar score line to that of the one at Carrow Road against Everton. After breaking his thumb in training some six weeks ago, Joe Lewis returned to the starting line up and it was double celebration for the Canaries' Under-18 keeper as it was announced that he had just pen to paper on a professional contract. Unfortunately for him no one had told the Hammers it was a day of celebration. The first thing the City keeper had to do was pick the ball out of the net after just five minutes as the home side opened their account through Ollie Allen. |

Just 10 minutes later and City were back on level terms when a great ball from Rossi Jarvis sent Chris Martin racing clear, and with just the Hammers keeper to beat the City striker made no mistake in finding the net. Shortly before the break West Ham restored their advantage when the ball broke kindly for Allen after a free-kick, although the scorer did look to be in an offside position. For the second time in the game City pulled themselves level on the hour mark. Martin returned the compliment when he worked his way down the flank before pulling the ball back for Rossi Jarvis to slot home. Just when it seemed that Norwich had earned a well deserved draw, they were dealt a cruel blow ten minutes before time when West Ham were awarded a penalty. While it would have been fitting for Lewis to save the day, it was not to be as the home side ran out the winners with Ollie Allen completing his hat-trick from the spot. |
