David Williams saw his side continue their good start to the season with a slender victory over Wolves at Colney. While the result was not as convincing as the 3-0 victory at Derby last week, it was never the less a solid display from a side that contained one or two younger players compared to the side that travelled to Derby. With two games in a week for Joe Lewis it was Shane Herbert who pulled on the keepers' jersey and he was quickly called into action inside the first minute when he was almost caught out by a looping shot that he had to scamper back to collect. Bally Smart was leading the attack along with Chris Martin and the South African saw a shot blocked after he ran onto a through ball from Andrew Cave-Brown. |

The game was finally balanced as at the other end Herbert got down quickly to save from Jordan Fitzpatrick who had turned on the edge of the box to unleash a low drive. With fifteen minutes on the clock City opened the scoring when, from a Robert Eagle corner, Michael Spillane took advantage of some poor marking at the far post to head home. The visitors defence looked somewhat shaky and a mistake let in Martin but to their credit they did recover before the City striker had time to get his shot in. Moments later Martin did manage to let fly but his effort was comfortably saved by Wayne Hennessey in the Wolves goal. On the stroke of half time Hennessey again came to their rescue this time to deny Smart from close range. |

Into the second half and a rare mistake by the Canaries defence allowed Joshua Ferran to get in a shot that was not so very far wide of the target. Asmat El Ouargui was introduced into the attack and it almost paid dividends when the Dane was clean through, only for Hennessey to throw himself at the ball to make a superb block when in truth he probably knew very little about it. In the end City were content to run the clock down as the visitors appeared to run out of ideas. It was a solid team performance with Spillane and fellow central defender Alvin Quaye well in command at the back. |
