Sunday saw the Academy boys return to Colney for Induction Day which is in effect the start of the new campaign and also when the new scholars get to put pen to paper on a two year scholarship with The Canaries. Before Ricky Martin got the meeting underway which was attended by not only the lads but by their parents and the landladies as well as senior club officials he announced that three second year scholars had just put pen to paper on their first professional contracts. FONCY would like to congratulate all three players - David Stephens, Dario Dumic and Sam Habergham - on gaining their first pro contract with Norwich City. Onto the day’s business and Ricky announced that there would be eight new scholars for the coming season. They are, Patrick Drmola, Ryan Oakley, Jed Steer, Richard Brindley, Remy Gordon, Alex Stephens, David Nwaogu and Matthew Ball (Matthew will not be back to Colney until Wednesday). Ricky talked at great lengths about what is expected of them during their two years as a scholar and physio Vicky Lack explained the importance of reporting any injuries as soon as they happen so that they can be treated accordingly. There was also a big round of applause when Ricky announced that for the coming season George Francomb would be head boy. Colin Watts and Dean Rastrick explained the changes they will face going from a schoolboy to a scholar, while the clubs new chief executive David McNally was on hand to welcome them to the club. With the club returning to the reserve league next season first team coach Ian Crook, who will be taking the reserves, was on hand to welcome the lads to the club. As far as pre season is concerned that gets underway with a trip to Histon on Friday 15th. July (7:30pm kick off). The following week on Friday 24th. they will be off to Mildenhall, again with a 7:30pm kick off. That is followed by two home games on Saturday 1st August against Brentford 11:30am kick off, and Saturday 15th. August against Norfolk U18's 11:00am kick off. Sandwiched between these two games the team will be heading to Holland on the weekend of the 8th and 9th of August to compete in a tournament in Den Haag. This will be sponsored by FONCY. Later this week look out for a full team photo when all the lads return after their summer break.
The FONCY Website will of course provide extensive coverage of all the pre-season action. Photos |
