Team Performance Secure A Point

NORWICH CITY UNDER 19's 0 ARSENAL UNDER-19's 0

Arsenal may have been top of their respective Academy League when they visited Colney on Saturday but Sammy Morgan's young side, that contained three schoolboys, had scant regard for that as they produced a tireless performance across the board.

Indeed Morgan was singing their praises at the final whistle, so much so that City's Academy Director refused to single out any one player as "Top Canary", insisting this was magnificent team performance.

After another good showing for the Reserves at Millwall in midweek, Jake Osborne missed the game through illness, meaning there was a welcome back for Greg Crane at the heart of the defence.

After a slow start from both sides the game burst into life on 20 minutes when Lee Blackburn looked to have opened the scoring with a looping header but there was Dorian Small to head the ball off his own goalline.

By this time City had been forced into an early change when Olly Willis suffered an ankle injury, Matthew Watts coming on in his place.

Danny Crow

Danny Crow went close on a couple of occassions

Danny Crow was the lone striker and he saw a shot go just wide of the target on 26 minutes, while moments later, after some good work by Nicky Howell, Crow forced Mark Howard in the Arsenal goal into a good save.

Shortly before the interval Adam Smith picked out Howell with a well waited cross field pass, but again Howard came to The Gunners rescue with a good save.

After the break City continued to make all the running with Howard again denying Crow.

Up until that point City keeper Joe Lewis, who was all set to join his England U17 colleagues after the game, had been untroubled but he needed to be alert to pull off a save from substitute Luke Webb.

Meanwhile back at the other end Howard was determined to spoil City's day, this time bringing off a save from Adam Smith.

In the final minutes Arsenal could have sneaked all 3 points had it not been for a well timed tackle from Andrew Cave-Brown.

Deep into injury time both teams were reduced to 10 men after an off the ball incident, with Blackburn seeing red for City. In all fairness up to then it had been a good competitive game with no bookings.

City Line-Up: Lewis, Cave-Brown, Willis [Watts 15][Eagle 77], Crane, Halliday, Smith, Howell, Blackburn, Howlett, Crow, Fisk.

Subs Not Used: Djhansouzi, Martin.
