City's Academy Under-19 side made their annual pilgrimage to Beccles on Wednesday evening where they lifted the Jack Constance Memorial Cup. A goal in either half from defender David Chick was just enough to give Adrian Boothroyd's side the win, but they did leave it rather late in the game with Chick scoring the winning goal deep in injury time. City started the game with four schoolboys in the starting line up and it was Jamie Clarkson and Adam Fisk who went close for the visitors before the Canaries opened their account on 24 minutes. Cutting in from the left flank Chick curled a delightful right foot shot into the top right hand corner. |

Joe Lewis had up until that point had very little to do, but he had to be alert and head a wayward back pass from Greg Crane off his line before clearing the danger. Beccles found themselves level shortly before the break when David Tyrie turned a dangerous cross into his own net. Boothroyd made 7 substitutions after the break as City went out for the winner. Twice they were denied by the woodwork through Danny Crow and Josh Clarke.Just when it seemed the game was heading for a draw, there was Chick at the far post to turn in an Adam Smith corner. |
