CITY GO THROUGH TO 4TH ROUND AFTER FINE TEAM PERFORMANCE

A 73rd minute strike from Ryan Jarvis has put City's Academy side into the hat for Tuesday's fourth round F.A.Youth Cup draw.

A crowd of 978 were on hand at Carrow Road to see Norwich put on a superb display to beat Bolton Wanderers and make it a hat trick of Premiership scalps for the Canaries, having beaten Newcastle United two years ago and then cup holders Aston Villa last year.

While the hero of the hour was indeed Jarvis, this was very far from a one-man performance with great displays from Sammy Morgan's side across the pitch. Outstanding in particular were Joe Lewis, who made some outstanding saves, and Matthew Halliday, who along with Jake Osborne helped to keep the Bolton attack under wraps.

Both sides had opportunities in the opening exchanges, with Danny Crow having a shot saved before Lewis produced an excellent save from close range to deny Bedi Buval.

The visitors were clearly unsettled by City's midfield powerhouse Lee Blackburn and it was he who nearly opened the scoring with a volley that went just over the crossbar.

On the stroke of half time City almost made the breakthrough when Nicky Howell raced clear to bring out a great save from Christopher Howarth in the Bolton goal, even then the ball fell kindly for the City winger, his second attempt however was blocked on the line.

Into the second half and Lewis was again called into action saving from Joseph O'Brian, while at the other end Crow had the crowd on it's feet when a looping shot had Howarth well beaten, but the City striker saw his effort strike the crossbar.

Jarvis carved out an opening for Howell whose volley was only inches over the bar. However it was the same two players who combined for the breakthrough when Howell flicked the ball on for Jarvis to collect and beat Howarth down to his right.

The visitors through caution to the wind in the final 15 minutes but again Lewis produced another good save and when he was finally beaten deep in injury time the City rearguard cleared the ball off the line.
