With Danny Crow, Damian Batt and Greg Crane all travelling with the first team to Peterborough yesterday, it was a young Academy side that took on Colchester United at Colney. Nevertheless Adrian Boothroyd's side continued their unbeaten run with a 3 - 1 victory over The U's. To be fair to the visitors they had the better of the first half and might have gone in at half time a couple of goals up, but they could not find a way past an in form Joe Lewis who was standing in for an injured Aaron Osborne. City took the lead 5 minutes after the break with a quite outstanding strike from Adam Smith. Just on the outside of the centre circle with his back to goal the Canaries midfielder turned to lift an unstoppable shot over Dean Gerjen in the Colchester goal. |

Two minutes later and Smith and turned provider when his delightful free kick was met at the far post by Josh Clarke who side-footed the ball in off the underside of the crossbar. The goals were coming thick and fast and just 3 minutes later the visitors pulled a goal back through Jamie Guy who raced clear to slot the ball under Lewis who, although he managed to get a hand to the ball, could not prevent it from finding the back of the net. City had to wait until injury time to score their third. Although there was no Damian Batt in the side it was his brother Shaun, currently on trial with the Academy, who made the goal when he won the ball out on the right wing before cutting in to cross the ball for Adam Smith who beat the keeper and a defender before sliding the ball home. |
