In preparation for next Tuesdays F. A. Youth Cup tie against Manchester United at Old Trafford, Ipswich Town kindly agreed to play City's Under-18 side at their Playford Road training ground on Friday. In the event City ran out winners with former Town schoolboy Robert Eagle scoring the only goal of the game after just two minutes. A quick free kick from Lee Blackburn saw Olly Willis crossing to the far post for Eagle to fire into the roof of the net. The result aside Sammy Morgan fielded what could be his starting eleven for Old Trafford although he would not confirm this after the game, insisting that we would have to wait and see. As far as the game was concerned Ipswich will think they should have taken something from the match having hit the woodwork either side of the break, but some stout defending from the City defence ably marshalled by Matthew Halliday and Jake Osborne kept Town at bay. |
