Striker Josh Clarke bagged himself a brace of goals as City's Academy side ran out 4-1 winners over Northampton Town at Colney on Saturday. The match was originally to be against Rushden and Diamonds but when they had to cancel it was their near neighbours The Cobblers who stepped in. The Canaries started well and it needed what was to be the first of many good saves from Mark Bunn in the Northampton goal to deny Lee Blackburn inside the first 5 minutes. City opened their account on the quarter hour mark when a delightful cross field pass from current FONCY player of the season Olly Willis picked out Clarke who still had plenty to do before firing the ball past Bunn. |

Town quickly struck back however when defender Matthew Howard beat Aaron Osborne with a stunning 30 yard effort. It only seemed a matter of time before City would regain the lead, with Northampton riding their luck as twice the lively Robert Eagle was denied by the woodwork. The goal however finally came 3 minutes before the break when Danny Crow converted from the penalty spot after Blackburn had been fouled. City extended their lead on the hour mark when Clarke scored his second after slotting the ball under the keeper from what was a tight angle. City scored their final goal 3 minutes before full time when Nicky Howell crossed an inviting ball to the far post for Jake Osborne to side foot home. |
